If you have a wet vacuum extract the liquid, if you don’t, absorb the liquid with a sponge or a clean rag. Apply pressure to the rag or sponge for an extended period of time, a good idea is placing a stack of heavy books on top of the rag. Once the rags have absorbed a good amount of the liquid, change the rags out for some fresh ones. Next, apply a very small portion of dish washing soap and dab the area, do not rub as this will push the liquid deeper into the carpet fibers.
After dabbing gently for several minutes use your shop vacuum to extract once again. If you do not have the liquid extracting vacuum, absorb with rags and heavy books. If you do not have a vacuum after this accident, you need to put it on your next shopping list, these tools are very important in quality home maintenance.
